Wadsworth truck driver cited in Medina school bus crash

A tractor trailer operator was cited for failure to keep an assured clear distance in a traffic accident with a school bus. On December 9, the tractor trailer crashed into a school bus traveling on Ohio State Route 94 near I-271. The Highland Local School District bus was carrying children to school, and two children were injured in the accident. Despite claiming the tractor trailer had faulty brakes at the time, the driver was still cited.

Car Strikes Amish Buggy

A car driven by a Wellington man in Lorain County struck an Amish buggy, injuring the horse and drivers of the buggy. The accident occurred in Pittsfield Township on State Route 58, when the driver of the car attempted to pass one buggy, only to find another buggy, which the driver could not see, in front of it. Upon attempting to return to the right lane, the driver clipped the second buggy. The accident is still under investigation by the Lorain County Police.

Three dead in Mentor Car Crash

Three people were killed in a two car crash in Mentor, Ohio on August 10, 2011. The accident occurred on Heisley Road between Perennial Lane and Whaler's Cove. Police believe that a vehicle traveling southbound on Heisley Road crossed over the double yellow center line and struck a vehicle traveling northbound. The victims in both cars were pronounced dead on the scene.

Vandals set traps on Portage County highway

Drivers in Portage County have been urged to be on high alert while driving on Ohio Route 225. This week vandals have placed on two separate occasions debris in the roadway which has caused drivers on Ohio Route 225 damage. Police in Portage County believe that the debris has been placed on the roadway deliberately, but have not made any arrests.

Ohio House votes to ban texting while driving

The Ohio House of Representatives recently passed a bill which would outlaw texting while driving throughout the State of Ohio. The bill, which is similar to the one passed in Cleveland recently, will make it a misdemeanor offense for anyone who is caught texting while operating their motor vehicle. If the bill passes, making Ohio one of 20 states with such restrictions, drivers will have a 6 month grace period after the law is passed in order to adjust to the new restrictions.

According to sources, 200,000 crashes a year are caused by drivers who are texting while driving. Several Injured in Geagua County Car Crash

Five people were injured in a Geauga County car crash on March 13, 2011.  According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 1999 Oldsmobile stopped at a stop sign at the intersection U.S. Route 6 and Ohio Route 86 and proceeded through the intersection.  As it was proceeding, it was struck by a 1997 Ford Explorer.

The injured parties were taken to surrounding hospitals for treatment of their injuries.  The incidents of the crash are still being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  The accident took place at night, right around dusk.

Light snow causes crashes, traffic slowdowns around Cleveland

The snowy weather, as is tradition in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, has been wreaking havoc on Northeast Ohio drivers.
